Heath Andrew Ledger was an Australian television and film actor whose rise to fame included roles in such acclaimed movies as “Brokeback Mountain”, “Monster's Ball” and “The Dark Knight”, for which he was awarded (among other honors) a posthumous Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role as the Joker. Ledger also produced and directed music videos, and aspired to be a film director.

His other awards include the New York Film Critics Circle Award, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (both for “Brokeback Mountain”), and a share in the Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award for the ensemble cast of “I'm Not There”.

Ledger died from an accidental combination of prescription drugs, at the age of only 28. His final role was in Terry Gilliam's film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”.
