Property managers in New Jersey who negotiate or finalize leases, collect rent, list rental units, or procure tenants must have a valid real estate broker's license. The only exceptions are for persons managing their own property. A broker's license is also required for managing community associations if the manager is engaged in renting, leasing, selling or advertising properties.
The New Jersey Real Estate Commission is the governing body responsible for licensing real estate brokers. In order to obtain a license, you must have at least a high school diploma, complete the required pre-licensure course, and have worked as a real estate salesperson for a minimum of three years.
